The Municipality of Mafra hereby announces that, today, Mr Hélder António Guerra de Sousa Silva has temporarily suspended his mandate as Mayor, following the presentation of his candidacy for Member of the European Parliament.

Under the terms of Article 9 of Law 14/79 of 14 May (Electoral Law of the Assembly of the Republic), in its current wording, the provisions of which apply to elections to the European Parliament, "from the date of submission of candidacies until the day of the elections, candidates who are mayors of municipalities or who legally replace them may not exercise their respective functions", so Hélder António Guerra de Sousa Silva will resume his duties on 10 June.

Considering that, under the terms of article 79 of Law no. 169/99, of 18 September, in its current wording, vacancies occurring in municipal bodies are filled by the citizen immediately following in the order of the respective list, the Presidency of the Municipality of Mafra will be exercised, temporarily and during this period of time, by Hugo Manuel Moreira Luís.
