Foz do Lizandro beach was honoured with the "Beach + Accessible 2023" award, an initiative of the National Institute for Rehabilitation, in partnership with the Portuguese Environment Agency and Turismo de Portugal. The award was presented today to the Municipality of Mafra on the occasion of the Lisbon Tourism Exchange.

Each year, the award honours bathing areas that stand out for their implementation of good accessibility practices and equal opportunities for people with disabilities or reduced mobility, in order to optimise their enjoyment.

At Foz do Lizandro beach, in addition to implementing the conditions for mandatory compliance with the "Accessible Beach - Beach for All" award, guaranteeing comprehensive and seamless access, complementary services were made available, such as amphibious chairs. At the same time, there was a focus on the quality of information provided to the public, namely the integration of the ColorADD code on beach flags, bins and other communication media, making this a safer and more inclusive beach for the colour blind. Training and environmental education activities were also organised.
