The Church of St Peter of Ericeira, located in the town square of the same name, became the main church in 1530, the period to which the Renaissance image of St Peter, visible on the south side door, belongs.
However, the building has been documented since 1446, when it was built as a small chapel outside the village.
The transformation of the chapel into a church began in the first half of the 17th century and was completed in mid-1745. The entire building is filled with elements of rococo architecture and figures alluding to the Apostle Peter's miraculous fishing cycle. In the 19th century, the choir was built on the north side and the interior was enriched with numerous paintings from former convents.
In the baptismal chapel adjacent to the building, the Manueline stonework is preserved, the oldest element of the monument, which was declared a Property of Public Interest in 1984. Every year the feast of Our Lady of the Conception and the festival of St Peter are celebrated in the churchyard.
